Applying For Funding at a Glance
- Applications for Economic Development grants may be submitted at any time.
- Grant requests for Housing, Neighborhood Revitalization, and Commercial Revitalization, are submitted annually. Communities may apply if they have no open grants in these three categories.
- They may have up to two open Economic Development grants.
- Eligible applicants may apply for up to $7,000,000 in loan guarantees.
- Grant contracts are written for two-year periods.
Prior to submitting an application for funding, the applicant must:
- Create a Citizen Advisory Task Force
- Hold at least two hearings to discuss community needs and potential projects

Federal Fiscal Year 2009 Rule Making Schedule
- July 9, 2008 - Notice of Funding Availability and Application Workshop Notice Submitted to Florida Administrative Weekly and emailed to local governments
- July 18, 2008 - Notice of Funding Availability and Application Workshop Notice Appear in Florida Administrative Weekly (must be at least 21 days before cycle opens)
- August 27 - 28, 2008 - Application Workshop
- August 14, 2008 - Prior Year Closeouts Due for Eligibility Purposes
- August 15, 2008 - Application Cycle Opens
- September 3, 2008 - Submit Notice of Rule Making (with rule text) to Florida Administrative Weekly* and email to local governments
- September 29, 2008 - Application Deadline
- October 1, 2008 - Application review period
- October 29, 2008 - Rule Making Public Hearing in Tallahassee*
- November 1, 2008 - Application Site Visits
- December 5, 2008 - Mail completeness letters (response required within 21 days per Rule 9B-43)
- December 2008 - Rule (Federal Fiscal Year 2009) becomes effective*
- January 5, 2009 - Mail Contract/Awards to local government
- February 11, 2009 - Route Contract/Awards for signature
- February 16, 2009 - Mail executed Contract/Awards to local government
- February 18 - 20, 2009 - Implementation Workshop/Check Presentations
*New rule will apply to the Federal Fiscal Year 2009 application cycle - it will not apply to the Federal Fiscal Year 2008 application cycle.
